AUTO INSURANCE

The copilot you want for the long road ahead

driving without auto insurance is illegal and risky- make sure you're covered!Coverage for your car isn’t just a good idea- it’s your legal responsibility. In the U.S., no driver can operate a vehicle on public roads without at least basic insurance.

Most general car insurance policies will minimize or at least subsidize repair costs and may even cover replacement of the entire car if it’s been stolen or deemed totaled in an accident. Several policies will even pay for a rental vehicle while your own is being fixed in the shop. Whether you depend on your car to get to work, go to school, to run errands or even an entire business, your car is one of the most important tools you use to run your life. When you need to get from A-B, you need some type of auto insurance.

What is covered under a standard auto insurance policy?

While every state has different minimum requirements for coverage, and every policy will be different depending on the provider and the person being insured, there are several basic categories that most insurance policies will protect:

Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability: covers the driver against the cost of causing an accident. This typically includes repairing damages they caused to the other vehicle, the other driver’s medical expenses, and legal fees if the injured party tries to sue.

Uninsured or Underinsured Bodily Injury: coverage for drivers in an accident caused by someone who doesn’t have insurance, or doesn’t have enough insurance to pay for your medical bills and repairs. Your insurer will pay for auto repairs and hospital bills, and will reimburse you for lost wages.

Medical Payments: auto insurance that covers the driver and passengers’ medical care if you get in an accident. Some policies extend this coverage if you are hit by a car as a pedestrian.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.

What categories can be added to a minimum policy?

Collision: protects the driver if they get in an accident or cause one themselves. Your insurance provider will pay for your car repairs, less the deductible.

Comprehensive: coverage for damage caused by something other than a collision, for example, fire, hail, flood, animal or human vandalism, and theft.

Roadside Assistance: reimburses the driver for costs incurred if their car breaks down due to mechanical error or can’t be driven because of a dead battery, flat tire, insufficient gas, or stuck lucks. Typically, the policy will pay for a tow or for a service like AAA to come out and help you.

Loan or Lease Payoff coverage: also referred to as gap insurance, this policy protects you while you are loaning or leasing a vehicle and your car is declared a total loss from an accident. Your insurer will pay an agreed-upon amount to the lender.

Pet Injury: pays for medical care for pets injured in a motor vehicle accident. Typically, vet bill coverage is included in Collision coverage.  Owners can choose from non-lifetime and lifetime policies.

Rental reimbursement: reimburses the driver for rental costs while their car is being repaired.

Custom Parts and Equipment Value: insurance for after-market additions or modifications to your vehicle. This will protect you if accessories like stereos, GPS systems, custom paint, or custom parts get damaged, lost, or stolen.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.
