COMMERCIAL TRUCKING INSURANCE

Insurance for the long haul

commercial trucking insurance from A.R. DavisProtect the vehicles your business depends on!  Commercial trucking insurance provides a comprehensive package of benefits for business vans, pickup trucks, dump trucks, trailers, utility vehicles, and other working fleets.

Although policies will range from provider to person, most standard commercial trucking insurance will typically confer a basic level of legal and medical liability and collision insurance for your employees and your trucks.  More extensive policies will cover things like certain repairs, towing, and cargo insurance, which can be a valuable add-on considering the long hours your vehicles will be on the road and the wear and tear they’ll receive while in service.

Your insurance company will determine the cost of your policy by looking at the number of trucks you need to insure, the make and condition of your trucks, the driving records of your employees, the mileage you cover each year, the types of loads you haul or work you do, and the coverage options you select for your vehicles. An A.R. Davis agent can help you decide which policy is best for you.

What is covered under a standard commercial trucking insurance policy?

While every state has different minimum requirements for coverage, and every policy will be different depending on the provider and the person being insured, there are several basic categories that most commercial trucking insurance policies will protect:

Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability: covers the driver against the cost of causing an accident.  This typically includes repairing damages they caused to the other vehicle, the other driver’s medical expenses, and legal fees if the injured party tries to sue.

Uninsured or Underinsured Bodily Injury: coverage for drivers in an accident caused by someone who doesn’t have insurance, or doesn’t have enough insurance to pay for your employee’s medical bills and repairs.  Your insurer will pay for auto repairs and hospital bills, and will reimburse the employee for lost wages.

Medical Payments: covers the driver and passengers’ medical care if an employee gets in an accident.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.

What categories can be added to a minimum policy?

Collision: protects your drivers if they get in an accident or cause one themselves.  Your insurance provider will pay for your truck repairs, less the deductible.

Comprehensive: coverage for damage caused by something other than a collision, for example, fire, hail, flood, animal or human vandalism, and theft.

Truck Cargo insurance: commercial trucking insurance that covers the cargo you are hauling. If the haul is lost, damaged, or stolen while your driver transports it, you will be reimbursed for its cost. Depending on the type of company you identify as, the government may require you to take out a minimum of $5,000 in cargo coverage, and your shipper may require an even greater limit before they will allow you to drive their products.

Roadside Assistance: reimburses you for costs incurred if one of your vehicles break down due to mechanical error or can’t be driven because of a dead battery, flat tire, insufficient gas, or stuck locks.

Occupational Accident Insurance: Some driving jobs can be quite risky. Standard worker’s comp insurance and your commercial trucking insurance liability policy may not be enough to cover a claim, which means your business can end up taking the hit. This endorsement acts as a supplement to workers compensation coverage, granting your drivers and their families additional protection if your employee is injured or killed on the job. Benefits include payment of medical expenses, restitution for death or maiming, and temporary and long-term disability coverage.

Rental reimbursement: reimburses you for rental costs while your work vehicle is being repaired.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.
