farming insurance from A.R. DavisAs a farmer you may rely on your animals or your crops to make a living- and they rely on you to help them live. We are proud to continue our legacy of serving local agricultural businesses. You can be sure that our agents are dedicated to providing farmers and ranchers with the proper coverage and advocacy to keep their estates safe.

What is covered under a standard farm insurance policy?

There are typically two different types of farm insurance: farm/homeowner’s insurance, for farmers who also live on their ranch property, and farm/ranch property, for those who work on land they own, but do not live on the worksite property. Farm and homeowner’s insurance is a lot like regular home insurance, but extends farm liability coverage to the rest of your land.

These two policies can cover the following categories:

Dwelling: farm insurance that provides all the basic protections of home insurance

Farm liability coverage: protection from bodily injury claims, medical bills, or property damage (your property or another’s) for which you are found liable. If someone slips and falls in your barn or your cows start grazing in another farmer’s pasture, this policy will help with any costs.

Farm Personal Property coverage: covers your livestock animals, your stored feed, and your harvesting or work equipment from loss or damages.

Farm Outbuilding coverage: farm insurance that reimburses you if a shed, barn, or other detached building is lost to a fire, lightning storm, high winds, hail, or acts of vandalism and destruction. Depending on what is stored in these structures, you may need to take out additional endorsements.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.

What categories can be added to a minimum farming insurance policy?

Custom liability coverages: can cover operations separate from the main farming business such as roadside stands, RV’s, boats, and rental units.

Livestock peril insurance: farm insurance that covers your animals against more unusual risks, such as drowning, accidental death from shooting, or attack from wild animals.

Machinery peril insurance: reimburses you for repair costs to your machinery if it is overturned, flooded, or in an accident.

Personal umbrella liability: an umbrella liability is extra liability coverage if more than $1 million in protection is desired.

Additional or Extended Replacement Cost: extra coverage to pay for the rebuild or replacement of your home. This may or may not be subject to certain limits.

Note: All farms are exposed to different risks depending on the type of work they do. Your farm may require a wide array or a very particular set of endorsements to be fully covered. Our agents will help you decide what insurance is best for you.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.
