GARAGE INSURANCE

Coverage for your customers' cars

garage insurance for body shopsGarage insurance typically expands upon a general liability policy to cover business owners in the body shop, repair services and sales and tow truck industries. In basic terms, garage insurance is meant to protect your customers’ cars while they are in your possession, and protects you from a lawsuit or expensive replacement or repairs should a car be damaged or destroyed while it’s being worked on or waiting for the client to pick it up. When you have to tear apart and restore someone’s prized possession, it’s best to play it safe and have the proper policies.

These policies can also include Dealers’ Blanket coverage where a garage business includes the sales and service of vehicles and this affords coverage for the vehicles and dealer plates used in test driving or transporting the vehicles.

What is covered under a standard garage insurance policy?

While every state has different minimum requirements for coverage, and every policy will be different depending on the provider and the person being insured, there are several basic categories that most garage insurance policies will protect:

Garagekeepers Coverage: garage insurance that covers accidental physical damage to a customer’s vehicle while you are working on or storing them. There is broad or basic coverages that you choose for any damage based on the liability limits you chose and may be legally responsible for.

Garage Liability Coverage: liability coverage that pays the medical and legal costs of an accident on the garage floor.  This typically includes bodily injury, property damage, and personal or brand injury.

Building and Business Personal Property: garage insurance that protects your garage buildings and personal business property such as tools, hardware, and software. Property can be scheduled or unscheduled.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.

What categories can be added to a minimum policy?

Business Income and Extra Expense: reimburses you for tangible loss of income if your business has to temporary close due to a covered loss. Extra expense can cover payroll and other miscellaneous expenses. This coverage varies with or without a waiting period for this coverage to start.

Tow truck garage accounts have higher limits required if they service clients across multiples States and clients should be aware of what they may need to include in a Garage policy.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.
