MOTORCYCLE INSURANCE

Your trusty companion on the road

motorcycle insurance from A.R. DavisIf you ride, you know you need to wear a helmet and protective gear to keep you safe on the road.

Motorcycle insurance is protective gear for your bike, your wallet, and your life. Having a dedicated policy isn’t just required by law- all riders know that they face more inherent risks than their four wheeled counterparts. Leaving yourself open to financial risks can lose you your license or even your bike. Keep your time on the road stress-free with proper motorcycle insurance from A.R. Davis.

What is covered under a standard motorcycle insurance policy?

While every state has different minimum requirements for coverage, and every policy will be different depending on the provider and the person being insured, there are several basic categories that most motorcycle insurance policies will protect:

Bodily Injury & Property Damage Liability: motorcycle insurance that covers the rider if they are determined at fault for an accident that injures another person or damages their property. This typically includes repairing damages to the other vehicle, and paying for medical or legal expenses.

Comprehensive & Collision: pays for repair or replacement of the motorcycle if it was damaged in an accident or stolen- even if the rider is the one at fault. Usually, all expenses are taken care of less the deductible.

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist: motorcycle coverage for riders in an accident caused by someone who doesn’t have insurance, or doesn’t have enough insurance to pay for your repair costs and medical bills.

Medical Payments: pays for the cost of necessary medical attention received after an accident regardless of who was at fault. Typically, this coverage only applies to treatments within a certain timeframe after the accident occurs and may also be capped at a certain dollar amount.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.

What categories can be added to a minimum policy?

Custom Parts & Equipment: coverage for your motorcycle’s accessories and custom parts. Some states will include up to $3,000 of accessory coverage in your standard comprehensive and collision policy, but it is important to check with your insurance agent to see if this rule applies to you.

Roadside Assistance: reimburses the rider for costs incurred if their bike breaks down due to mechanical error or can’t be driven because of a dead battery, insufficient gas, or other equipment failure, or if the bike is stuck or immovable near the roadway. Typically, the policy will pay for a tow or for a service like AAA to come out and help you.

Because riding a motorcycle presents statistically greater risks than driving a car, many agents will recommend that riders purchase an umbrella policy, which provides additional coverage above your standard liability limits. A personal umbrella policy is actually quite affordable, and can be the difference between bankruptcy or being able to afford medical care, replacement of your bike, and time off work to heal and rest.

Please note that these parameters are only examples of what the typical customer could expect to receive for this type of policy.  Actual coverage will depend on the provider and the person being insured.  Please talk to your A.R. Davis agent to find out what type of coverage you qualify for.
